Takyra is a visionary leader, program director, mental health advocate, and holistic wellness educator dedicated to helping women, embrace healing, rest, and self-worth. As the Founder and CEO of CALM, she leads with compassion and purpose by creating accessible spaces where women can reconnect with themselves through self-care, community, and culturally affirming support.
CALM was founded in 2018 during one of the most difficult seasons of her life. She was navigating anxiety and depression yet felt ashamed to seek support. When she finally began searching for help, she could not find spaces that reflected her identity or honored her lived experience as a Black woman. That absence left her feeling isolated, and the gap became her calling. The seed for CALM was planted, because she knew Black women deserved more. Her lived experience fuels CALM’s mission.
Today, she leads CALM with a whole-person, community-rooted approach by building partnerships, expanding access to care, and creating restorative spaces where women can rest, heal, and thrive.
Why safe, accessible, and culturally affirming spaces for black women. Women are at least twice as likely as men to experience a lack of mental wellness. Black women in particular, are about half as likely to seek care. Being a part of that statistic, Takyra deeply connects with our target audience.
CALM is a nonprofit dedicated to creating safe, accessible, and culturally affirming spaces, where Black women can prioritize self-care, mental health, and community connection.
